Notes

General notes:
Among the Birds, nearly all the species additional to Gmelin appear to be quoted from John Latham's "Index Ornithologicus", 2 vol., 1790. Among the Mammalia, the new Species described in Thomas Pennant's "History of Quadrupeds", 2 vol., 1781, and in Arthur Phillip's "Voyage to Botany Bay", 1789, have received Latin names, thus forestalling those in George Shaw's "General Zoology", 14 vol., 1800-26, hitherto looked upon as the first Latin binomial names of those Species.
