Edward Lee Greene (August 20, 1843 - November 10, 1915) was an American botanist, a plant collector and a taxonomist. In 1876-1877, while Greene was an episcopal priest in Yreka, California, he discovered the first specimens of <Phlox hirsuta>, a small flowering plant found only in that area. He went on to become the first professor of botany at the University of California, Berkeley (1885-1895), a professor of botany at the Catholic University (1895-1904), and associate in botany at the Smithsonian Institution (1904-1915). - The source of this article is Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
