This translation was made from the 1778 edition of the Genera plantarum, edited by Reichard. The Botanical Society at Lichfield consisted of Erasmus Darwin, Brooke Boothby, and John Jackson, the main translator, and printer, of the work.

Bound in marble-stained sheep, with gilt double fillets on boards, and gilt decorations on board edges and turn-ins. Rounded spines divided into panels by groupings of gilt fillets, with fish-scale patterns filling the panels. Double red morocco lettering-pieces with gilt fillets and titles: THE / FAMILIES / OF PLANTS // VOL. I [&c.]. Marbled edges. Endpapers marbled in black stormont pattern with red and orange veins.
Condition noted; 20060118. Corners rubbed, boards scraped and scratched. Front board detached from vol. 1, and loosening from vol. 2. Some spotting, esp. in vol. 1 *k.

Vol. 1: boards very worn; edges rubbed, front fore-edge worn and lifting, corners worn and lifting; top of spine broken away, headband and lining exposed; base of spine worn away, headband loosely attached; spine corners very worn; vertical cracks in spine cover, small pieces of leather lifting; front board and endpaper detached; rear joint broken, held by top cord; fair.
