Traduit de: The Swedish ms., consisting of 80 folio pages, was sent in 1770 by Linnaeus to Dr. C. F. Mennander, Archbishop of Upsala,who commenced a translation into Latin. In 1779 Mr. Fredenheim,son of the Archbishop conveyed the Diary and other MSS. to Robert Gordon, of Cadiz, to be printed in England. Mr. Gordon died soon after, and the ms. were sold by his executors to J. Mawman, the publisher of this second edition

NHM GENERAL - On the front endpaper is a printed label reading '-- quod nec Jovis ira, nec ignes, Nec poterit ferrum, nec edax abolere vetustas. Thomas Gray. Glasgow.' Bound in before the half-title page is a sheet of paper on which is written ' London April 10, 1757 Proposals for publishing in weekly numbers the Botany of Linnæus or, the Genera and Species plantarum of that celebrated author, connected into one work explained from his other works and translated into familiar English by Dr John Hill. To be in 1 vol. folio, 25 nos. from 28 May 1757'. The sheet of paper on which this is written is a typed letter dated '18 Jul 1922'. This is a manuscript copy by B D Jackson of Soulsby no. 8c.
NHM BOTANY - Attached to front flyleaf is an envelope containing 5 ms. copies of letters from Linneaus to Archbishop C. F. Mennander, transcribed about 1790: (1) Translated into English, dated 1734. (2) Translated into English, dated Feb. 1, 1737. (3) Translated into English, dated Nov. 30, 1739. (4) in Swedish, Jan. 22, 1770. (5) in Latin, 1776. (Soulsby no. 2516.) Envelope is brittle along fold. Foxing throughout. Repairs have been made to half-t.p.
