Bound in green sheep, strongly grained, the boards with triple gilt fillets and a decorative gilt border of roses, thistles, shamrocks, and harps, within which a blank panel is defined by triple blind fillets with corner fleurons. Compartmented back with five shallow bands, gilt double fillets and dotted lines, each compartment bearing a gilt floral ornament framed by floral and linear decorations, and gilt titles: DUPPA'S / BOTANY. Gilt decorations on board edges and turn-ins; gilded edges.
Condition noted; 20010118. Front free endpaper and prelims of vol. II detached. Much miscellaneous staining and foxing, including on plates. Plate of Hydrocharis torn at top and base. T2, T4 torn at top inner corner; 2A3 torn bear base, 2M3 at base; 2Q4 at fore-edge.
Condition noted; 20130812. All vols. have vertical cracks in the spines. Vol. I: corners worn, lifting; top of spine worn, pulling from headband; base of spine worn, esp front corner; spine edges worn and flaking; front board split from text block along hinge; front board, fly-leaf and title-page splitting from text block in lowest section; rear hinge cracked, rear endpaper split along line of hinge, free endpaper and fly-leaf split from text block, sewing exposed. Vol. II: corners rubbed, lifting; bottom-edge of rear board rubbed, lifting; spine edges worn, esp. corners; small pieces of leather lifting along hinges, hinges cracked; front free endpaper, fly-leaf and title detached; rear hinge cracked, endpaper split along line of hinge, free endpaper and fly-leaf split from text block in lower half. Vol. III: edges and corners rubbed; front endpaper split along line of hinge, spine leather split in places; from 3L2 onwards split from text block.
