Formerly W. T. Stearn's copy. On the front free endpaper is a circular stamp with the words "James W. C. Moody, Rec'd 7 Jul 1968". Another previous owner's stamp on the title-page has been largely effaced, but the date 1914 can be easily read. Bookseller's ticket pasted at lower corner of front pastedown: William Wesley & Son, 28 Essex Street, Strand, London.

Bound in half green sheep, with paper over boards marbled in blue Spanish style, with elaborate blue and red veins; blind double fillets at leather edges. Spine with five raised bands bearing gilt panel decorations. Gilt spien title: LEPIDOPTERA / BRITANNICA. Red speckled edges.
Condition noted; 20150707. Boards rubbed; lateral tearing of leather at spine and corners. Top and base of spine have lsot upper layers of leather. Front hinge broken, board partially detached, front free endpaper and title-page detached. Text block broken at Cc, at which point the rear board and final leaves are partially detached from book block. Foxing.
