Other notes:
Bound in half sheep with paper over boards marbled in curl pattern; gilt single fillets at leather edges. Rebound October 1958 by Wigmore Bindery (32s.); remains of original spine glued to new rounded spine. Older spine with give raised bands bearing gilt decorations; panels filled with gilt decorations, surrounded by gilt double fillets. Red morocco lettering-piece with gilt triple fillets in different styles, and title: ROSE'S / ELEMENTS / OF BOTANY. Top-edge stained.
Annotated throughout, in ink and silverpoint. On the title-page, the word "eleven" has been scored through, and the word "fourteen" written alongside and subsequently partially erased. Errata on p. ix are crossed out, and entered in ink in the text. Many of the annotations consist of the expansion of abbreviations and the replacement of dittos by full words; some translate Latin names; others amend errors in spelling and cross-referencing (the book appears to have been carelessly proof-read). A few annotations comment on principles of nomenclature and classification, as on pp. 258, 276-7, 310. Some annotations refer to an unspecified MS, presumably a work in progress of Lindley's.
