Copy 1 bound in green mottled sheep, with gilt triple fillets and floral borders on boards; spine with five raised bands bearing gilt decorations, flanked by gilt single fillets; compartments with gilt dotted fillets and floral ornaments; red morocco lettering-piece with gilt single and dotted fillets, and title: HUDSONI / FLORA / ANGLICA; gilt edges; brown endpapers. - Copy 2 has library binding in brown linen, with gilt spine title and, concealed beneath pasted spine label, gilt Lindley Library belted device.
Condition noted; 20060105. Copy 1: front board loose, hanging on by sewing. Copy 2: minor foxing scattered throughout.
Condition noted; 20130806. Good. Copy 1: edges worn, corners very worn; front board split from main block, held by cords; rear board cracked; boards scratched and rubbed. Copy 2: slight wear to corners; rear case split along line of sewing, exposing stitches.

ENGFLORA
Copy 1 has various cuttings pasted on the front endpapers, and ink annotations on the fly-leaf. Pasted at the base of the title-page is an obituary notice for William Anderson of the Chelsea Physic Garden, annotated in ink "Oct. 1846". Miscellaneous ink and pencil annotatations scattered infrequently throughout, e.g. "June 16 -/35-" on p. 89, "4 miles from Uxbridge" on p. 385 (as a gloss on Harefield), etc.
Pencilled annotation in Florence Cardew's hand, on front free endpaper of copy 2: 'According to Frankland in a letter Oct. 24, 1778 "Mr Tof-d has had no small hand in Hudson's book and being a hot violent arbitrary man, 6 ft. high, has, I suppose, bullied little Hudson into a number of alterations". = Thomas Tofield'.
