Provenance:
London copy. Front endpapers of vols. 2-4 bear engraved armorial bookplate (removed from vol. 1) of Ramsay Robinson.
Wisley copy: Fred Stoker bequest, 1964. Front pastedown of Vol. 1 bears the engraved armorial bookplate of George Gostling [of Whitton Hall, Middlesex], with the motto "Spernit pericula virtus". Loosely inserted in vol. 1 is a letter from Thomas Hay, dated 3 February 1939, saying that "The Weston book has just been returned from the binder and now looks fairly respectable. It is being sent as a little gift to my consulting physician [i.e. Stoker] and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do the packing of it up. Although once used as a door stopper it has not got the slightest whiff of dogmatic theology.
London copy. Small and virtually illegible ink annotations on endpapers of first volume. Former price of 12/- written in pencil on front endpaper of volume 1.
