Originally published in six fascicles, bound in two volumes dated 1777 and 1798. Each fascicle consisted of 12 separate issues, each with six plates and accompanying text. A new edition printed for George Graves with descriptions written, enlarged, or rewritten by William Jackson Hooker was published between 1817 and 1828.
A mixed set comprising: Vols. I and II (published 1777, 1798) containing fascicles 1-6 (these are another issue of the edition placed at 1823.e.4); Vol. III has the titlepage of the new edition, enlarged by George Graves, dated 1826, but the text is a new setting of fasc. 5 and 6 of the edition of 1798; vols. IV and V are of the new edition, enlarged by George Graves and William Jackson Hooker. The general indexes to fasc. 1-3 and 4-6 are omitted.
Vols. 3-5 bear the imprint: London: printed for George Graves, Peckham.
With a list of subscribers and directions for binding at the end of the Preface in the first volume.

Imperfect; wanting the general index to fasc. 4-6, the index to fasc. 4, and fifteen plates, with their descriptions, from fasc. 6, given in the index as no. 33, 34, 36, 38, 39, 41, 47-49, 51, 62, 64-67. Two leaflets entitled respectively “A Catalogue of certain plants, growing wild, chiefly in the environs of Settle,” and “General Observations on the advantages which may result from the introduction of the seeds of our best grasses,” were issued together with vol. 1 and are bound up in that volume.
