Bound in at the end of vol. 1 are three items: 1) a 2-page folded ms. index. 2) "Some account of the author of this work" by T. Pennant., Nov. 13th, 1788. 3)A 2-page folded A.L.S. from the author to Pennant, Oct. 21 [?1777]. Bound in at the end of vol. 2 is a ms. "List of such figures in the Flora Scotica, of which some part is borrow'd from other authors. Every part of all the other plates are originals.

Bound in sheep stained to resemble tree-calf, with gilt acanthus borders on boards, and gilt decorations on board edges and turn-ins. Spines with five raised bands bearing gilt decorations; panels filled with gilt decorations. Red morocco lettering-pieces with gilt dotted lines between fillets, and titles: FLORA / SCOTICA; green morocco lettering-pieces with volume numbers. Yellow edges. Endpapers marbled in green spot pattern. Green silk bookmarks.
Condition noted; 20060109. Hinges weakening, upper and bottom portions of boards beginning to separate from spines. Offsetting from plates onto facing text pages. Vol. 1: book block broken at Dd; some fore-edges ragged, esp. Gg1, Hh2-3, and plate II; fore-edge of Y1 mistrimmed; page numbers punched out on Ppp3 (pp. 949-950). Vol. 2: plate XXIV somewhat dirty at top; tears in Zz2; some fore-edges ragged, esp. Hhh1, Hhh4 (also grubby), Iii1, Lll2-3; spotting in Uuu.
Condition noted; 20130808. Good. Vol. 1: corners very worn, esp. upper corner on front board; some lateral tearing on front board; top of spine tearing and lifting, small sections lost; headband loose and broken, held at ends; vertical crack on spine 1 cm from rear board; base of spine very rubbed; front hinge broken, cords visible, open split in bottom section; rear hinge cracked, bottom section split. Vol. 2: corners worn, esp. rear left; right- and left-hand sections top of spine broken away, exposing headband; base of spine very worn, esp. in right corner; two oblique scratches on rear board; front hinge broken, board detaching at top and base; top and bottom thirds of front endpaper split along edge of board; top half of rear joint split, held by cords; endpaper split along edge of board.
