NHM BOTANY (Henrey Coll) - Previous acquisition? - On front endpaper 'Lewis Aug. 1945 2 vols. CE/-'
NHM GENERAL - Both volumes are interleaved and annotated by Dawson Turner in accordance with a plan (never realised) of bringing out a new edition of the work. An autograph letter from Pulteney to Sir Joseph Banks, dated 'Feb. 4, 1795' is inserted in Vol. 1 (information from a manuscript note by Warren Dawson, inserted by him in Vol. 1). Pasted to the front flyleaf verso of Vol. 1 is a portrait of Pulteney.
NHM BOTANY (Special Books) - Ms. bibliographical annotation on front flyleaf recto of vol. 1 in pencil. Some ms. annotations in pencil throughout both vols.
NHM BOTANY (Special Books) - Rebound in brown half-leather with decorative tooling. Spine has good tooling and raised bands. Marbling on edges of textblock;, though faded on top.
NHM GENERAL - Boards are completely off both volumes.

Recased in quarter brown sheep by Wigmore Bindery 1958 (37s.), with paper over boards marbled in blue-green spot pattern. Rounded spines divided into panels by blind double fillets. Gilt spine titles: BOTANY IN / ENGLAND / PULTENEY / I {or II]. Gilt date 1790 at base of spine. Blue speckled edges.
Condition noted; 20051222. Board edges rubbed; hinges internally reinforced with tape.
Condition noted; 20130805. Good. Edges generally worn. Vol. 1: rear board edge battered, exposing pasteboard in places, damaged at centre; top of front board also exposing pasteboard. Vol. 2: board exposed at bottom of front board, and front fore-edge.
