Title history:
Gray's interleaved copy of the Systema Naturae, 1758-59, was bequeathed by him to William Mason [1724-1797], and passed to Richard Stonehewer [1728-1809], and was eventually sold at the Bright Sale in 1845. John Ruskin [1819-1900], a later owner, left the book to his cousin & heir, Mrs. Arthur Severn, who presented it to Charles Eliot Norton, by whom it was presented to Harvard University Library.
NHM DARWIN AD 1393 - This is a presentation copy from the author to Sir Joseph Symonds Hooker (1817–1911), with a handwritten note of presentation inside front board. Bookplate from Hooker family library is on front loose endpaper.
